Occurrences of Minerals

The mining of minor minerals like Quartz, Feldspar, Dimension Stone, and Gravels is active in the district. Although major minerals like Copper Ore, Chromite, PGE, and Gold have been reported, Erode District has limited occurrence of such minerals.

The most commonly available minor minerals include Quartz, Feldspar, Granite varieties, Rough Stone, Gravel, and Silt. Gypsum has been reported from the north-west of Bhavani. Gold occurrences are noted from Bensimali. Beryl is reported west of Bhavani. Mica is found in the east and southwest of Anthiyur. Gemstones have been identified in the Chennimalai area. Copper ore has been observed east of Gobichettipalayam and in quarry sections of Mylambalayam village. Chromite mineral deposits have been reported from the Bhavanisagar and Karappadi areas.

Despite the presence of these minerals—from gold to gemstones, and copper to PGE group minerals—their quantities are not sufficient for mining operations. Only quartz, feldspar, rough stone, and dimension stones are currently quarried in the district.
